Hauntingly beautiful and darkly seductive, Adult Prom’s “Hope You Are Well!” is the stuff of dreams.
Listening to Adult Prom’s “Hope You Are Well!” is like finding inner peace. Well, not a comfy-cosy sort of peace where all is right with world, but a peace that lets you float through all of life’s difficulties and discomforts on a cloud of introverted defiance. Hailing from Utah’s Salt Lake City, the band was founded by Russ Allphin after leaving the Mormon faith – a subject matter that is central to the band’s upcoming debut album “Mild Horses”. Exploring the dark corners of our minds, Adult Prom make music for those who want to feel it with both body and soul, drinking it down in one thirsty gulp.
Ethereal, moody and evocative, “Hope You Are Well!” has a highly cinematic psychedelic sound that will keep you coming back for more. “You cannot move”, sings Allphin, and like on cue we sink deeper and deeper into blissful submission, mesmerised by the spacy synths and his languorous, double tracked vocals. The track blossoms into its full power like a beautiful yet dangerous flower; as the gentle rocking beat is gradually replaced with powerful, explosive drums, we are almost physically shaken awake from our reverie.
Somewhere between a most beautiful dream and a most terrible nightmare, “Hope You Are Well!” is a twilling zone of delight.
