In creating his own personal brand of Punk-Pop, Kidson really leans into the Punk in the instrumental aspect of the track; the first thing you notice is its bad-ass bassline driving it along, while detuned and distorted guitars dance above it. His raspy, yet melodic vocals are a distillation of Punk-Pop in its plainest form, with his soulful more pop-oriented voice carrying a darker story of heartbreak and the frustration so often tied up in the pursuit of an elusive lover. The ‘poppier’ characteristics of ‘Sweet’ can be felt most intensely in its immaculate production, so refined you would never guess it was all produced from within the four walls of the artist’s bedroom.
An assortment of sonic contradictions and juxtapositions, ‘Sweet’ shouldn’t make sense, but quite honestly, it just does.
