Big Fun are bursting with insatiable, off the wall energy in their new track “Rubberband”.
Forego your morning coffee in favour of “Rubberband”, the bouncing synth-rock bonanza from Big Fun. The band – made up of Nasty Kathy, Beef Angel and BigBong – is true to their name; with their outrageous aesthetic and love for “Big bOOTY ROCK and Roll”, the collective is hyperactive, fresh, infectiously exciting and dripping with irony. “Rubberband” is the first track off their upcoming album OOGLEY BOOGLEY, inviting us to partake of their madness.
The epitome of a sugar rush, “Rubberband” bounces on a disco beat, with the band chanting the word “rubberband” like an unhinged manifesto. Reminiscent of such conceptual, electro-funk music acts as Sexual Harassment, “Rubberband” combines danceable grove with tongue-in-cheek lyrics, referencing the cloying grip of the internet and the dangers of group-think. There is a distinct sound of static and techno elements, creating multi-layered textures which both assault and caress your eardrums.
Like the TV screen from David Cronenberg’s Videodrome, “Rubberband” will suck you into its singular vision, enveloping the senses and capturing you inside its grove.
