Express Office Portico may like it weird, but their new single is anything but. The latest release from the Nottingham based band is titled ‘I Like It Weird’, and it is a funky sensation. Like many other bands, lockdown and coronavirus caused havoc to their potential plans, but they didn’t allow it to hinder them too much, and once lockdown had finished, they graced us with sweet, sweet music. Fans of Gorillaz, Hot Chip, and MGMT will absolutely love Express Office Portico.
The concept of the song stems from lead vocalist and keyboard player Billy’s OCD. This combined with emotions of love and jealousy led to intrusive thoughts about past sex lives of previous lovers. The single was recorded at the Old Chaplin Road side of Battery studios, London, and is a groovy piece of joy. Driven by a thumping bassline, crisp synths, and crystal-clear vocals for the icing on the cake.
