Fly The Nest is back with new single ‘Old Street Lover’ an archetypal indie-rock hit!
“Fly The Nest is does know how to write indie anthems and is back with force in new single ‘Old Street Lover’.”
‘Old Street Lover’ is the new single by Fly the Nest, a solo project by Stephen Cooper, which is “about having a connection with someone that’s ultimately lost”. The track itself was produced and recorded by Peter Doherty and follows someone as they part ways with a loved one but is still wishing them the best. This bittersweet undertone presents itself through the solemn goodbyes woven into the verse, partnered with an uplifting chorus. A listener may take on the complicated feelings of being sad to see something end but also know it is ultimately for the best.
‘Old Street Lover’ is the archetypal indie-rock song, with “a driving beat” and “wailing guitars”, all of these features working alongside Cooper’s strong, melodic vocals to develop a well-constructed track that is impossible not to dance to. The chorus is the catchy, pop feature of the track, yet the use of sombre piano adds an extra dimension to this optimistic break-up anthem.
