Rooted in the rugged lands of the Scottish Highlands, ‘Jessica’ is a contemplative and heart-breaking foray into the lonely depths of victimhood. It’s a “meditation… for inner peace”, and a deeply personal exploration of one woman’s navigation through the aftermath of domestic trauma. There’s a profound duality to the track; and Forgotten Garden find a certain beauty within the unspeakable – and otherwise incommunicable – experience of assault. Lyrically, the insurmountable grandeur of the Scottish landscape acts as a metaphor for the turmoil that lies within: “She’s always drifting away, blown by the winds of yesterday”. Inês’ heady vocals drift hauntingly across the rugged mountains, accompanied only by her thoughts and the unobtrusive stringed melodies of band members Danny and Joe.
