Sink into the atmospheric world of Liz Moss’ “smoke alarms”.
Multi-instrumentalist Liz Moss is a singer-songwriter with a deft lyrical touch. Inspired by the likes of Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift and Phoebe Bridgers, as well as by the softness of bedroom pop, she is a crafter of atmosphere and mood, transcribing the freshness of her own youthful experience into her music. Having won Bloomington’s 2019 “Rising Star” contests, she is currently studying on the Songwriting program at Belmont University in Nashville, all the while performing a variety of venues across Indiana.
Opening with a gentle acoustic guitar melody, “smoke alarms” paints a charming picture of a cosy room and its melancholy occupant, sick with unrequited love. Determined to encounter her beloved, she sets off the fire alarm with a candle, but her plan fails to incite a connection. The track is enormously atmospheric, incorporating romantic elements such as the barely perceptible crackle of a record player and the delicate tinkling of a synth. Liz’s voice floats though it all like the fragrant smoke of a flickering candle, accompanied by ghostly backing vocals and warm instrumentation.
A brief but oh-so-perfect track, “smoke alarms” is full of innocence, longing and magical atmosphere that is impossible to resist.
