Experience the unbearable lightness of being with Lizzy King’s ephemeral track “Floating”.

“Floating” came to Lizzy King while she was in the shower. Based on a moment of cathartic release, the song captures years of self-doubt and pain, and transforms them into a defiant desire to persevere. With help from her older brother Nate and friend Tyler Halford of Foster the People, Lizzy’s moment of realisation was transcribed into a haunting song that many of us can relate to and, hopefully, find comfort in.

“Floating” is a paradoxical track, weighed down by emotional depth but gossamer in its execution. The reverberating piano chords gently usher us into this highly personal tale of trauma and pain, allowing though their simplicity for Lizzy’s voice to take centre stage. With distorted, My Bloody Valentine-like guitars providing texture and depth to the main body of the song, the cathartic power of Lizzy’s vocals create a sense of levitation and escape, driven by the incantation of the repeated lyric “I’m floating up”.

Brittle and brilliant, “Floating” captures the pain and joy of being alive, defiantly choosing transcendence over defeat.
