Hypnotised by “Empty Eyes” – a track by Mantis State that will make you move and grove all day.

The funky Leeds outfit Mantis State are brimming with musical prowess and pure, unrestrained energy. Having met at Leeds College of Music, the six musicians brought together their varying musical backgrounds and styles, creating a unique sonic smoothie of bliss. With a spot on BBC Introducing Radio and an upcoming gig at the Camden Assembly this July, they are sure to get a crowd into a headbanging frenzy with their all-enveloping sound.

An unabashedly loud and exhilarating track, “Empty Eyes” opens with a wall of guitars that wouldn’t be out of place on a heavy rock song. Interweaving the funkiest of all saxophones with bubbling, wet synths, it has the flavour of swamp rock but the attitude of funk, resulting in a mixture so groovy that it’s impossible to sit still. Cameron Bradbury’s vocals are equally loud and soft, subdued and electrifying, becoming an instrument of their own in this glorious cacophony.

With is catchy chorus, funky rhythm and swelling soundscape, “Empty Eyes” will not leave you indifferent to its charms.
