IRISH ALT-FOLK ARTIST MARK LOUGHREY IS BACK WITH A NEW SINGLE, ‘NOTHING ON A TRUTH’ AND ITS HAS BEEN WELL WORTH THE WAIT.
“Reflecting at every twisting verse on the impact of a moment. A lie or a truth uncovered to change ones complete outlook on the world.”
For just over three years, the Irish alt-folk artist Mark Loughrey has been seemingly quiet in his releases. But, now, he’s back with a new single, ‘Nothing On a Truth’ and its has been well worth the wait.
From the twinkling introduction to the marching guitar and floating strings, this progression of a track meanders down a steam of change. Reflecting at every twisting verse on the impact of a moment. A lie or a truth uncovered to change ones complete outlook on the world. Such a quickly changing nature is mirrored in Loughrey’s rich vocals that often fall into sporadic rapids without a moments notice.
Released alongside its remixed sibling ‘Strangled Birds’ which sees the Belfast-based James Bruce changes the soft single into an entirely new turpentine kaleidoscope of jazz loops. Together they are a sign to the future and what Loughrey’s upcoming EP, On Through the Veil Anew (out later this autumn), might hold.
