Slick and seductive: Palma Louca play with perspective in their new track “Us and Them”.
“Lyrically weighty and musically sublime, “Us and Them” is more of an experience than a simple piece of music, immersing its listeners in a dreamy haze of excellent storytelling. ”
Following the success of their previous single “Stationary Life”, the rising stars of Alt-rock world, Palma Louca, are back with their newest work “Us and Them”. This Newcastle-based shoegaze quintet have been praised for their dreamy guitars and tight musicianship and they are not about to drop the ball any time soon. Recorded at home during lockdown, “Us and Them” is Palma Louca flexing their lyrical muscle, presenting a track that is complex and engrossing, like a good book.
“Us and Them” is a dark twist on a love song, exploring the relationship between two passers-by through the lenses of obsession, voyeurism and wishful thinking. A lyrically impactful track, it warrants a careful listen as it gradually constructs a story by jumping between three perspectives. Joe Norton’s slick vocals are cloying in the best way possible – coating every moment in deeply engaging storytelling that sinks into your mind almost subconsciously. With its deceptively smooth sound, “Us and Them” rests on quite a heavy bass, which alternates with rough guitar parts that are nevertheless melodic and at times even ethereal.
