With inspirations like The Killers and Jack Johnson, rockband Parker Sounds’ sound holds the middle between rock music and acoustic pop. Alick Kilsby has a voice that’s right at home in both of these genres. The verses of their latest single Tightrope slowly build up a bit of tension with a suspenseful rhythm and mood, before breaking into the catchy chorus. Singing about a dysfunctional relationship where both parties don’t want to be the one to let go, the line We’re just a car crash in slow motion is especially poignant. The band uses more of this type of clever imagery, the ‘tightrope’ from the title being another visually strong metaphor. Parker Sounds aims to keep the fundaments of their song simple, and in doing so they still manage to effectively bring their message across. With straightforward and resonating lyrics, and a chorus that’s easy to sing along to after one listen, they will have no trouble getting listeners on their side.
