“Opener” is a stunning beginning of Pleasure Centre’s musical journey.
Lovers of 90s shoegaze Aneela Siddiqui, Charlie Hunter, Billy Bostanci and Fred Dixon-Lenton met in college before forming a band in 2019. Since then, they have scored appearances on BBC Radio One and Amazing Radio, as well as multiple interviews and live sessions with BBC Introducing. “Opener” is one of the main lead singles from their upcoming EP – described by the band as “conceptual”, as they strive to embrace a more electronic based instrumentation.
Riotous guitars and energetic drumbeat form the base of this hazy, twilling-filled track. An insistent, moody bassline penetrates the blankets of distorted guitars, as Siddiqui’s spectral vocals croon gently like echoing howls. A track made for the moshpit, “Opener” seamlessly combines the texture of My Bloody Valentine and the ghostly introspection of Slowdive, while also saturating it with infectious energy and headbanging vigour. Reminiscent of a darker DIIV, Pleasure Centre is sure to delight any lover of shoegaze or darkwave.
