Dive down into the sleepy psychedelia of Point Lobo’s “Helen’s Song”.
Point Lobo’s Miles Senzaki is a man of many talents. When he is not drumming for The Pharcyde or composing for the hit podcast “The End Of The World with Josh Clark (of Stuff You Should Know)” as well as for a score of other projects, he makes dreamy digital art that is the perfect visualisation of his lo-fi blend of synthpop/post-punk music. “Helen’s Song” is the second single off his upcoming EP “Tacoma Narrows” and is accompanied by a dreamy, anime-inspired video that will hypnotise you like a hypnogogic TV screen.
“Helen’s Song” is simply bewitching. As the woozy Beach House worthy chords lead the way, the choppy, distorted guitars and the creeping rhythm create a sense of distant promise, fuelled by the slow yet resonant drums. Hushed vocals and soporific harmonies lull us to a state of delicious languor, floating above a bed of sparkling, star-like synths. The lyrics themselves are equally dreamy – full of “pendulums/ loops and rings” and “smouldering scent”. As the last piano chord sounds off, we are yanked out of our enthrallment, bewildered and yearning for more of this carefree bliss.
