Opening with an array of distorted and fluttering synths, ‘Tension of the Season’ expresses so articulately what so many people will have felt, as they weathered the storm of the COVID-19 pandemic this year. There is a real hopefulness felt in the predominantly pop-inspired track, co-created by the Kentucky-born Whitt brothers. The optimism of both the lyrics and melody of the track elevate it to almost anthemic prominence and it can safely be said that Rags and Riches have succeeded in providing a sonic silver-lining in an otherwise grey and unsettled global landscape. Although based on a more personal experience of a family health struggle during the pandemic, ‘Tension of the Season’ lends a highly relatable quality to the listener.
