“Old Friends” and good times are at the centre of Scott Helman’s newest track.

Scott Helman’s highly acclaimed album “Nonsuch Park (sa)” and its gold-certified lead single “Wait No More” have already earned him a place in the heart of many a Canadian, but this seven-time Juno Award nominee is not about to stop there. A talented songwriter, panellist on CBC’s Canada Reads and environmental campaigner, Scott is one busy bee and someone who does not let fame get to his head. His latest track – “Old Friends” – is a reminiscence of his younger days, when parties went on until daylight and friendships felt like they would last forever.

Beginning deceptively with an acoustic section, “Old Friends” packs a powerful punch with its explosive chorus and unabashed honesty. In equal part a celebration and mourning of the carefree times of our youth, it’s an ode to all the reckless behaviour, endless summer nights and joyful company of our friends. The track attempts to revive this fleeting feeling of youthful exuberance by incorporating pop-punk vocal elements and typically 00s fuzzy base – a throwback to the soundtrack of parties past.

A bottled-up, heartfelt cry for the days gone by, “Old Friends” is a song that will resonate with each and every one of us.
