Sisyphes enraptures us with their atmospheric and melancholy track ‘Des Stops et Des Detours’.

Sisyphes’ sound is hard to define. Featuring elements of Stereolab and Broadcast inspired avant-pop, touches of French synth-wave and a hefty dose of personal je ne sais quoi, this project by former La Houle guitarist and songwriter Geoffrey Papin is strikingly different to most music you will hear today. After a difficult and emotional year, Sisyphes is ready to face the future with a score of exciting releases, including an EP ‘Cargo Cult’, debut album ‘Deviant Pop’ and a live show at Elsewhere Margate this November.

Like a distant yet potent dream, ‘Des Stops et Des Detours’ subtly evokes an indescribable, melancholy atmosphere full of longing and languor. Buzzing electronic chords mix with the warmth of an acoustic guitar, while the gentle percussion seems to lull us to sleep, interrupted only by a distant, woeful synth reminiscent of an abandoned organ. As the track builds up to an airy and eerie falsetto bridge, we begin to feel a winter chill and surrender ourselves to rapturous power of the music.

Romantic and somnambulant, ‘Des Stops et Des Detours’ perfectly captures the mood of desire and unfulfilled love broken by the many cruel twists of life.
