Ski Lift explore the crisis of identity in their raucous single ‘I Wanna Be You’.

Forming in 2018, Ski Lift is the project of Welsh songwriter Benji Tranter, supported by an evolving ensemble of friends. Together, they craft bijou tracks that capture a wide range of everyday experiences in the space of two minutes. Since their inception, Ski Lift have received great praise and support from leading industry taste makers, with BBC Wales’ Adam Walton commending them for releasing “three of the best singles this year”. You can find their music across multiple Spotify editorials and even in an episode of ‘Made in Chelsea’.

Centred around the manifesto-like central refrain, ‘I Wanna Be You’ couches deep, introspective subject matter in a breezy indie sound that is impossible to not bop along to. Anthemic drumming and steady bassline lay the groundwork for the layers of melodic guitars, which infuse the track with shimmering shoegaze textures. Tranter’s vocals are a balm for those in the similar state of mind, while the simplicity of his lyrics convey the naivety and deep earnestness of young adulthood.
