Slant question the consumerist world in their existential track ‘75” TV Screen’.

In 2020, Brighton-based quintet Slant burst onto the music scene with a hair-raising mix of glam-rock flamboyance and riot-grrrl vigour, and they have no intention of slowing down. Having gained support from BBC 1, BBC 6 and BBC Introducing Sussex, as well as acquiring a substantial fan following due to their sold-out shows, the band have been picked up by the indie record label Pool Valley Music and are now looking to release their debut EP ‘My Friends Are All Machines’ this March.

Somewhere between a materialistic wonderland and consumerist dystopia lies ‘75” TV Screen’, a track that delivers “a sardonic commentary on modern life” in an enticing package of hazy guitar riffs and woozy harmonies. The evocative strings blend with the roughness of the guitar, propelled forward by Katy’s resonant voice – a lovechild of Cindy Lauper and Kate Bush. Unfolding with a cinematic lushness that is reminiscent of Lana Del Rey’s lyricism, this existential drama questions our fleeting desires and misguided intentions, with the rhetorical refrain “Do you live within your means?” becoming increasingly insistent as the realisations sinks in.

An existential nightmare illuminated by the glow of the TV screen; this track is a tongue-in-cheek ode to all the desires that make us all too fallibly human.
