Sleepyhead’s “Long Goodbye” is the perfect sun-drenched summer track.
An indie duo from Manchester, sleepyhead consists of two school friends Seb Reid and Matt Davies. Despite going to different universities, the pair continued to write music together, forming sleepyhead after graduating. Like their latest single “Long Goodbye”, their upcoming EP ‘Blue’ was written during the chilly days of 2021 winter lockdown, yet magically their sound retains a palpably summery feel, awash with carefree attitude and invigorating indie energy.
Opening with expectant guitars and soft yet resonant drums, “Long Goodbye” unfolds like a perfect summer’s day. Reminiscent of classic 00s indie bangers, the track also possesses a certain radiant softness that aligns it with bands such as Alvvays and Frankie Cosmos, capturing a vibrantly youthful spirit that balances somewhere between angst and joy.
Waving goodbye to old ways and habits, “Long Goodbye” captures the excitement and apprehension that comes with new beginnings, ultimately looking into the future with an openhearted smile. With its melodic guitars, soothing vocals and sprinkling of shimmering synths, sleepyhead’s sunlit sound is as catchy as it is comforting.
A quintessential feel-good indie track, “Long Goodbye” if full of warmth and familiarity that will have you coming back to it time and time again.
