Starrgazy whisks us away into dreamland with their ethereal debut track “Flying”.
Concocted in the inter-lockdown limbo, “Flying” is a wistful bit of escapism from the dream-pop duo Starrgazy. Hailing from the west coast of Cornwall, vocalist Lucie Hill and multi-instrumentalist Benjamin Morgan create music that captures the sublime sensibility of their native landscape and the romantic undertones of their name.
“Flying” takes us on a journey through the liminal space between wakefulness and sleep, exploring the boundaries of our perception. Hill’s lulling vocals – reminiscent of Julee Cruise’s crooning on the Twin Peaks soundtrack– are seductively hypnogogic, parring well with Morgan’s hazy guitar and shimmering synth. The chorus is a haunting harmony, as light as air but captivating as the sea, resting on a beat that harks back to such iconic tracks as Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams”.
