Listen as Tertia’s ‘Overly Emotional Woman’ Builds from a Relaxing Pop Track into a Frenzy of Emotion

“ Tertia seems to convey the frustration attached to being labelled an ‘Overly Emotional Woman’ simply through her use of sound”

21-year-old, London based, artist Tertia has just released her newest single ‘Overly Emotional Woman’ in the lead up to the release of her mixtape later in 2021. Tertia herself is familiar with and educated in classical music yet makes her own music using a more D.I.Y approach, recording and producing in her own bedroom.

The track itself starts as a relaxed, synth filled, pop track that builds into a frenzy of layered noise and sound bites of different displays of emotion, such as laughing and screaming. With a clustered outro that is comparable to Florence Pugh’s outpour in the 2019 horror ‘Midsommar’. The juxtaposition between the relaxed and steady beat, and the intense and loud climax of the track effectively come together to build a strong tension despite the lack of lyrics. Tertia seems to convey the frustration attached to being labelled an ‘Overly Emotional Woman’ simply through her use of sound, as the track grows from something quiet and calm into something that is annoyed but liberated.
