‘GOLD’, VALLEY ONDA’S FIFTH SINGLE, IS A SURPRISINGLY HAUNTING AND PIERCING OFFERING.

Having spent the year touring with Brightness, ‘Gold’, Valley Onda’s fifth single, is a surprisingly haunting and piercing offering.
A deeply satisfying trilling drumbeat and ominous reverby guitar march us into bizarre, slightly disturbing vocals. ‘Gold’ is purportedly about a feeling of powerlessness, and trying to overcome that feeling. Whilst this intent isn’t entirely clear in the lyrics, you’ll certainly pick it up in the despairing, slurring mood of the song.
Sitting somewhere between Kurt Vile and Robert Smith, singer Jordan Wilson has a simultaneously very stylised and very listless sound, lending the track a surreal, dystopic texture. With an incredibly tight band behind him, this makes for a really interesting, experimental prospect, and I look forward to seeing how it’s developed.
