Singer-songwriter Yellowlees releases stirring indie anthem ‘Jungle’
If there’s ever a track to break us free from the year we’ve had, ‘Jungle’ may well be it. Yellowlees – otherwise known as 24 year-old Pete from Norfolk – is a natural songwriter, pairing intoxicating melodies with the organic folksiness of acoustic guitar to create a rich yet intimate sound. ‘Jungle’ is an anthem of the twenty-something experience, confronting the personal doubts of reaching adulthood and the anxieties of fitting in. “I can see the tree tops”, sings Yellowlees in glorious a Capella breaths that utilize jubilant harmonies no doubt stemming from a background in drama, “I just can’t reach them yet”. Instrumentally, the track is equally accomplished, showcasing accompanying bass lines and percussion in ways that could give the likes of Nick Mulvey or Mumford and Sons a run for their money. Yellowlees takes the doubts of growing up and makes them beautiful.
