Take a sonic escape to sun-drenched beaches and coastal cafes with Tom Besley, aka A Band Called Tom’s debut EP ‘I Don’t Know What it Feels Like to be Cool’.
The third single and title track of his latest EP, distils the Leeds-based artist’s modern blend of indie surf-pop/rock effortlessly, as he voices the anxieties that inevitably manifest themselves in newly formed relationships. This feeling of unease is expressed in Besley’s fast-paced lyrics and racing guitar, set against a backdrop of busy, snare-heavy percussion. Despite this sense of self-awareness or self-doubt however, the track still somehow manages to create an atmosphere of calm and comfort, feeling like a sonic bottling of sunshine and rolling waves. Taking inspiration from the likes of The Beach Boys and The Kooks, it’s not surprising that A Band Called Tom manages to strike this balance, bringing his own mark of authenticity to the genre of Surf-Rock.
