Donna ‘La Mulatta’ is telling it like it is with her newest track “Tell me the truth”.

Parisian underground singer Donna ‘La Mulatta’ intermixes soul and house in her story-driven single “Tell me the truth”. Depicting the breakdown of a relationship in the middle of a party, the song is driven by her acidic and brutally honest lyrics, contrasting the heartache enunciated by them with the jubilant mood of the music. This is Donna’s second collaboration with the Lille-based producer Fair’Son, following in the footsteps of a similarly soulful “Let’s go to the party”.

An infectiously rhythmic track, “Tell me the truth” is full of elements that will get in you in the dancing mood. With an opening of shimmering cords reminiscent of such disco hits as Evelyn “Champagne” King’s “Love Come Down”, a gospel-influenced clapping beat and a rubbery synth that wouldn’t be out of place in Japanese city pop, this track is a delicious mashup of all things groovy. Donna’s vocals effortlessly switch between the ephemeral soul chorus and the hard-hitting R&B verse, bringing texture and dynamism to the song.

Impervious to heartbreak, Donna ‘La Mulatta’ is a disco queen with a defiant attitude and a timeless sound.
