Look out for the ‘Blue Sun’, the radiant collaborative track from Everything But The Everything.
‘Blue Sun’ is one magical collaborative track. First conceived as a bassline and guitar part by Izzy The Gent – the man behind Everything But The Everything – it was given new life by the collective efforts of Olivia Barchard on vocals, Landon Cisneros on drums and Jimmy Chen on guitar, with Rex Shelverton working on production. Mixing the attitude of Cyndy Lauper with the grit of Green Day and the laid-back haziness of Best Coast, this track is a testament to the power of collaborative musicianship and the fun that can be had in the recording studio.
A blue sun shines in the sky, melancholy and distant like a winter moon. “To you, everything is tragic waste” sings Barchard, her waifish, seductively languorous harmonies lingering among waves of heavy guitar. As the steady drumbeat with its hissing hi-hats ushers us into the depths of this track, summer-warmth begins to come through, tickled by the strumming of surfy guitar melodies. A tug of war ensues, with the heaviness of the verse surrendering to the lightness of the chorus.
Like the tempestuous forces of nature, ‘Blue Sun’ is a dynamic and impassioned track, full of complexities and contrasts.
