Embark on a whimsical journey with Gus Leifeld’s newest track ‘Crossing The Street’.

Gus Leifeld is part of an emerging generation of songwriters who are unafraid of intermixing vulnerable self-reflection with a playful, DYI approach to music. Despite being only 18 years of age, Gus’s lyrics are as sharp and amusing as they are relatable, bringing in a distinctive energy and personality to the musical landscape of today. This Minnesota native began to write and produce music after school and continues to build on this with live performances and a steady stream of fresh, shoegaze-like tracks.

‘Crossing The Street’ has a delightfully summery sound, teeming with lofi treatment that is simultaneously retro and indisputably modern. We are welcomed by shiny synth chords which eloquently blend with a rubbery, funky base and Gus’s soft, double tracked vocals. Although the arrangement is relatively sparse, it doesn’t shy away from playful elements such as the finger-clicks and a final key change, while also highlighting the eloquent simplicity of Gus’s reflective and witty lyrics. The accompanying DYI music video intensifies all of these elements, incorporating cassette-tape opening and presenting lyrics as subtitles to the home-video footage.

‘Crossing The Street’ is funky, fresh and full of laid-back vibes that will make you slow down and smile, because nothing is ever THAT serious.
