Latchy is a “Foreign Local” looking for a way home – and into your summer playlist.

The newest single by Singapore-based Australian multi-instrumentalist Latchy – “Foreign Local” – is a track for all of us who feel displaced and alienated in our current up-side-down and highly polarised world. Inspired by a personal experience of being locked out of his native Australia, Latchy captures the pervasive loneliness that comes from such an unexpected separation from home and all the things that make us ‘belong’ to a particular place or people.

The track tentatively kicks off with a choral opening and progressively builds up to a chorus powered by a catchy bass hook. Although they may seem deceptively simple, with each repetition, Lathcy’s laconic lyrics – “I feel just like a foreign local” – resonate with his listener and drive home (no pun intended) the bewildering feeling of isolation.

Reminiscent of Sting’s iconic “Englishman in New York”, this is a track that doesn’t brood; instead, it speaks its truth and defiantly goes on, using a moment of weakness as a source of inspiration and infectious creativity.
