Liz Dix explores the drifting apart of a relationship in her debut track ‘Cold Space’.
Toronto-based multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter Liz Dix makes her official debut after 10 years of performing music across the Hamilton/Toronto bar scene. Taking inspiration from the likes of Phoebe Bridges, Maggie Rogers, Courtney Barnett and Nathaniel Rateliff, Liz’s song-writing lies in cathartic self-expression, driven by honest storytelling and soothing indie-folk sound. Her debut track, ‘Cold Space’ was recorded with the help of Mike Tompa and looks forward to more future releases.
Opening with some grungy guitar chords and Dix’s crisp vocals, ‘Cold Space’ fluctuates between stripped-back verses and hook-driven chorus. Despite the undertones of wistful melancholy, the track is full of warmth, whether it’s the addition of colourful brass, the drive of the energetic bridge, or the full-bodied harmonies of the chorus. As she traces the end of a relationship, Dix’s lyrics stir up forgotten hopes and emotions, contrasting the warmth of memory with the chilliness of stark reality.
Intimate, reflective and emotionally stirring, ‘Cold Space’ encapsulates all the things left unsaid at the end of a relationship.
