Totally immersive and steeped in whimsy, MAYN’s latest single ‘Call and Response’ offers an ambient, instrumental sonic escape.
Reflecting the notion of trying to find one’s inner voice and the personal journey that this often entails, the track becomes increasingly layered and complex as it progresses, enveloping the listener more and more into its ambient embrace. Although the track is purely instrumental, the layers of sound are not solely electronic, with tiers of human sound adding a more vibrant and engrossing dimension to the track. Intended to be paired with a live light performance, it’s safe to say that MAYN has succeeded in his plight to hone in on the escapist aspect of music, playing with boundaries between illusion and reality, and inviting the possibility of alternate realities. However, even without the visual aspect of the multi-instrumentalist and visual artist’s work, his music alone still has the power to create an internal visual experience in the listener’s mind.
