“Good Times” are ahead with Michael Lane’s newest, blissful folk track.

Michael Lane is not your usual folk artist. A former US soldier, he has served in both Iraq and Afghanistan, coming up against some of the darkest moments in our present history. Since then, he has turned to music as a process of cathartic reflection, gradually regain his grip on everyday life. His newest track, “Good Times” marks a positive turn in his musicianship, ushering in feelings of joy and relief generated by a hopeful outlook on the future, in spite of the uncertain times we find ourselves in.

Opening with gentle bird song and jubilant snares, “Good Times” is driven by interweaving Fleet Foxes-like guitars and a resonant double bass which provides a warm core to the track. A bright and buoyant song, it nevertheless coveys a profound reflection on the way we live. Reminiscent of Talking Head’s searching lyrics in “Once in a Lifetime”, it disavows the superficial trappings we use to distract ourselves, urging instead to turn our focus inwards.

As he sings of our mutual fears and worries, Michael creates a sense of community and self-acceptance, generating a feeling of wellbeing that is the core message of this song.
