Indie-rock duo Mother Culture unveil their upbeat tale of heartbreak, ‘Drawing By Design’.
Australian sibling duo Mother Culture know a thing or two about catchy grooves. Fully embracing the modern DYI ethos, the pair write, record and produce all of their music in their own Melbourne home studio, preserving their unique chemistry and finely tuned sound. Following the success of their 2020 debut EP To Be Frank and 2021 singles ‘Fuzzface’ and ‘Scaramouche’, Mother Culture are back with yet another impassioned tune, turning sour emotions into a certified banger.
A blindingly sunny song about the pain of broken relationships, ‘Drawing By Design’ simply cannot be contained by either narrative or sound. The catchy, swirling melodies unfold like a psychedelic kaleidoscope of colour, driven by the indulgent sound of fuzzy guitars and Tame Impala-like bass. The playful rhythm mediates between moments of explosive passion and those of tentative expectation, punctuated by the stirring “It’s coming, it’s coming, it’s coming” refrain. As the resonant vocals rise up like fireworks, the listener becomes awash with emotion, full enthralled to the magically paradoxical sound of this upbeat heartbreak.
