Quietlove explores emotional duality with playful hit ‘No Feelings’

Light and bouncy, ‘No Feelings’ opens with the elastic rhythms of syncopation. It’s a credit to his production background that Quietlove – otherwise known as Brendan DiStefano from Toronto – can so effortlessly glide between musical genres without losing sight of the overall picture. Alt-pop vocals are paired with undulating percussions that take the listener to the different recesses of his creative process. “Why do I call you late at night?”, he sings, incorporating the tell-tale bleeps of a landline with a playful zest. At its core, ‘No Feelings’ speaks to the “perpetual struggle between head and heart”, and the innate desire to pursue what ultimately hurts us in the end.

After the number of times I’ve listened to it, let’s hope ‘No Feelings’ doesn’t hold the same risk.
