Don’t be “Cruel” and tune in to ROE’s invigorating new track.

“Like the gems of 90s and 00s rock that you would blast in your bedroom, pretending to be much cooler than you are, “Cruel” is an infectiously joyous piece of music with plenty of attitude. ”

Don’t be “Cruel” and tune in to ROE’s invigorating new track.

ROE is a force to be reckoned with; despite the turbulence of 2020, ROE not only racked up over a million Spotify streams of her EP ‘Thing We Don’t Talk About’ but continued to expand her already eclectic sound. Her newest track – “Cruel” – moves away from hip-hop and pop sound of her earlier work, embracing pop-punk roughness that nevertheless enhances her charm and vitality.

A wall of energetic, punk-rock guitars leads the way, flavoured with a honking synth that injects a fun sense of anarchy. Although “Cruel” is arranged in quite a straightforward way, this simplicity is a pedestal that showcases the contrast between the heaviness of the music and the sweet simplicity of ROE’s vocals – so unassuming yet so captivating in their gentle pervasiveness. Her lyrics are full of acrid wit, defiantly pushing back at an unjustly cruel relationship and refusing to be pulled back further.

Like the gems of 90s and 00s rock that you would blast in your bedroom, pretending to be much cooler than you are, “Cruel” is an infectiously joyous piece of music with plenty of attitude.
