Cal in Red open up the doors to their debut EP with their melancholic new single, 'WTLUN'.
A title that can be expanded to the question Where’s That Leave Us Now, this track sees the brother duo shower the world in synth raindrops. Soaking your soul with breezy junctures of bass and glistening lyrics that refract memories of classic 80s hits.
Sink into the dream-state of Cal in Red’s ethereal track “Act Like”.
Cal in Red are an indie-rock brother duo with a love of disc golf (look it up). Having begun their joint music career in 2018, the pair remain faithful to their personal, DYI approach, recording and mixing all of their music at home – or in their cousin’s basement studio. Their sonically sun-bright, atmospheric music deals with everyday anxieties and disconnects, while simultaneously injecting a sense of youthful optimism into these moments of reflection.
Sumptuous and optimistic, ‘Zebra’ explores social media through the wooziness of soft-indie.
There is a richness to Cal in Red (otherwise known as Connor and Kendall Wright): a strong musical identity no doubt found in the familiarity of brotherhood. It makes for a promising EP, with the imminent release of their debut record close on the horizon. ‘Zebra’ – its first single – takes inspiration from the social pitfalls of the social media generation, where digital gratification replaces authentic connection. “Sure a Zebra is unique”, says Kendall, “but guess what, there are fields and fields full of Zebras out there”. Instead, Zebra celebrates the little victories and finds gloriousness in the everyday: we are enough as we are.
