Five years since the release of her critically acclaimed debut album, Redefined, Norwegian singer-songwriter Marianne Engebretsen is back with an art-pop follow up, Something New. Inspired by the multiple changes that have occurred in her life since the first time she came to public attention as a semi-finalist in the Norwegian version of The Voice, this alum is an uplifting resolve to overcome life’s difficulties and to celebrate its joys. With the power to turn the most delicate of ballads into the most explosive of soundscapes, Marianne’s voice is still at the forefront of her music, supported by an enchanting blend of atmospheric textures and catchy pop hooks.

Norwegian artist Marianne Engebretsen has been taking over Scandinavia and beyond with her playfully ethereal sound. Having gained exposure through the Norwegian version of The Voice, her songs have been featured on Swedish and Norwegian radios as well as in a number of international music blogs. Now, Marianne is looking forward to the release of her second album, Something New, as well as to having her music featured in the upcoming Norwegian blockbuster Nordsjøen. 

A contemporary interpretation of acoustic indie with speckles of jazz, this Norwegian artist entraps your senses with her unworldly compositional talents. Burning like a candle in the dark, this portrait of her mother moves with tender spontaneity before delving into a percussive motif accompanied by the phrase, “you don’t give up”. A mantra calls you to be just like her mother, this single is a calm storm of motivation. 

‘Strange to You’ is the third single from her upcoming album, and takes its inspiration from the existential depths of loneliness. “When you’re lonely, everything suddenly loses its meaning”, says Marianne of the creative process, contextualising her thoughts in the forced isolation of recent lockdowns. Musically, the track is light and catchy, boasting a range of textures through confident synth melodies and gentle percussion in a manner not dissimilar to Maggie Rogers.
