With their signature blend of nostalgia and novelty, Transistor is a band formed through happy coincidences. Consisting of Patrick Davis, Drew Sikes, JT Ward and Mason Richardson, Transistor traces its beginnings to Patrick’s and Drew’s chance meeting on a music app – and the realisation that they live in the same building. With JT and Mason coming on board, the band was able to fully flesh out their indie-rock sound and have since played multiple shows across the American south and have recently released their debut album, ‘Maybe in the Summer.’
An upbeat song about downbeat times, “Silver Lining” is just that – a celebration of optimism and the power of remaining true to one’s self even in the face of adversity. Rife with jubilant hi-hats and layers of distorted guitars, the track’s energetic and cheerful melody masks a great deal of pain, referring to Patrick’s mother’s search for meaning and inner peace in the face of terminal cancer. Poignant and sincere, his vocals are nevertheless pointedly bright, striving to focus on life’s gifts rather than its griefs.
Like an unexpected stroke of luck at a gloomy time, “Silver Lining” creeps up on you and delights with its buoyancy and good-willed cheer.
