Embark on a spiritual journey with Stanley Duke and The Kindred Spirits’ “Isolation Tarot”.
Glam-rock god Stanley Duke is back with a serving of delicious psychedelic goodness in the shape of “Isolation Tarot”. As the title suggests, this EP was inspired by Stanley’s experience of isolation during the pandemic and his use of Tarot cards to come to terms with his experiences. Like walking through an alternate reality, this EP is a seamless musical delight that oozes sensuality and mystery, ebbing and flowing with classic sounds of psychedelic rock. Evoking the “crumble and melt” of our pre-pandemic lives, “Isolation Tarot” is a journey into our inner self and a path to new beginnings.
The EP swarms with sounds and feelings that are disarmingly familiar, yet subversively innovative and evasive. The spritely opening synth chords of “The Hanged Man” are reminiscent of Rod Stewart’s “Young Turks”, while the guitar parts of “King of Pentacles” have a thoroughly Led Zeppelin/T-rex feel – all combining into an almost rock-opera majesty that wouldn’t be out of place on The Who’s discography. Throughout this musical labyrinth, Stanley’s whispering vocals lead us to a heart-pounding crescendo, bringing a tentative beginning to a rousingly affirming end.
A smouldering cauldron of classic rock, modern sensibility and esoteric mysticism, “Isolation Tarot” is a trip worth having over, and over, and over again.
